  • A highlight of our visit to Rome was the Vatican Scavi Tour (<a href="http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/institutions_connected/uffscavi/documents/rc_ic_uffscavi_doc_gen-information_20040112_en.html">Vatican web site</a>).  No photos are permitted on the tour.  However, the tour finishes in the area where the past popes are entombed.

  • St. Peters.  Wow!  Those letters below the windows are 6 foot 2 inches tall, it's 5.7 acres and has a capacity over 60,000.

  • St. Peter's has two stoups like this one.
  • Piazza Navona
  • Hotel Smeraldo had small, comfortable room just off the Campo de'Fiori.  A great spot in the heart of Rome.  This was the view out our room window.
  • Constantly running drinking facets are all over Rome.  Plug the hole and it becomes a fountain.
